Summary:PURPOSE:To reduce a time required for image pickup, to remarkably increase the number of consecutive image pickup frames, and to extend the service life of a camera by closing a shutter when the exposure light quantity of a solid-state image pickup element arrives at required light quantity. CONSTITUTION:Light is made incident on the solid-state image pickup element 13 by the aperture of the shutter, and photoelectric conversion is performed by a photodiode 21 and a vertical transfer CCD 22, and an electric charge generated in the photodiode 21 is accumulated in each diode. Thence, the electric charge swept out to a drain 25 is integrated at a drain current integrator 11. When the output of the integrator 11 arrives at a reference value as appropriate light quantity, it is supplied to a comparator 12, and a system controller 9 outputs a closing signal for the shutter.
