Summary:PURPOSE:To reduce the production cost of a spindle shaft by forming the front end part of the shaft into a part of a conical shape. CONSTITUTION:The front end part of a spindle shaft 11 worked into a hollow column is formed to a shape, which is obtained by cutting away the apex part of a cone, by a lathe. A slope 11a is worked by a grinder. Consequently, working is easy because it is sufficient if linear working is performed. The front end part of the shaft 11 is formed to the shape obtained by cutting away the apex part of the cone having 100 deg. vertical angle by the slope 11a which is inclined at 4.5 deg. to a face orthogonal to the axis of the shaft 11. A contact part 11d of the shaft 11 is brought into contact with an inside face 4a of a chucking hole 4 to fulfill the positioning function.
