Summary:PURPOSE:To grind a rolling roller efficiently and reduce wear and nicks by preparing rotary grinding wheel raw material with cubic system silicon nitride used as abrasive grain and vitrifying material used as a binder, and bringing this rotary grinding wheel raw material into contact with the peripheral surface of a continuously rotated rolling roller while rotating the rotary grinding wheel raw material. CONSTITUTION:A rotary grinding wheel 2 driven by a motor 1 is brought into contact with a rolling roller 4 and fed by a feed means 5 to perform grinding. Because of being large-sized, the rolling roller 4 is rotated while being supported not at the center but at the roll necks by rest work or the like, and ground in such a way that the drum part peripheral surface of the roll 4 is formed into curved surface, that is, convex and concave. The rotary grinding wheel 2 used in this case is of integrally formed structure with cubic system silicon nitride used as abrasive grain and vitrifying material used as a binder, and the cubic system silicon nitride used in this case is formed by applying high- temperature high-pressure treatment to hexagonal system boron nitride under the existence of an appropriate catalyst.
