Summary:PURPOSE:To prevent the scratch of the surface of a photosensitive body caused by the arrival of a carrier at a blade by executing electrification with the polarity reverse to the electrifying polarity of toner and a toner image carrier, and completely removing the carrier stuck to a nonimage region from the surface of a toner image carrier with a brush. CONSTITUTION:This cleaning device is provided with an exposing means before cleaning 4 imparting a charge having the same polarity as that of the toner on the upstream side of the conductive brush 3 of the toner image carrier 1, and has the addition of a bias applying means 5 including, at least, a bias having the polarity reverse to that of the charge of the exposing means before the cleaning 4, on a conductive brush 3, as a feature. Then, an exposing means before the cleaning 6 is provided in the same part as a position where the exposing means 4 before the cleaning is disposed, or in the downstream side of the exposing means before the cleaning 4 and the upstream side of the conductive brush 3, as necessary.
