Summary:PURPOSE:To detect paper length without the need of an operator at the time of replacing a folded type continuous paper sheet by installing a computing means which computes the paper sheet length of one page of the folding type continuous paper sheet by making the output of an optical detecting means correspond to paper carrying quantity or paper passing time. CONSTITUTION:An optical detecting means 5 which detects the number of passing pages of a folding type continuous paper sheet 4 outputs a detected pulse every time the side end of the folding type continuous paper 4 passes. By making the detected pulse corresspond to paper carrying quantity or paper passing time, the paper length of one page of the folding type continuous paper sheet 4 is computed by a computing means. Based on the paper sheet length obtained from this computation, paper sheet stack initial positioning is carried out automatically by connecting a positioning mechanism electrically to a paper size regulating plate.
