Summary:PURPOSE:To prevent the staining of a surface part from occurring by detecting the toner adhesive quantity of plural pattern images having different density and correcting the detected value which is the basis of control to a state having no error by the use of the detected values. CONSTITUTION:The toner adhesive quantity is optically detected concerning the plural pattern images having different density, and the detected value concerning one pattern image is corrected based on the detected value concerning another pattern image so as to control an image processing element. Therefore, even when the detected value of the toner adhesive quantity is different from an actual value because of the dispersion of developing characteristic, the detected value which is the basis of the control is corrected to the state having no error. Thus, the staining of the surface part is prevented.
