Summary:PURPOSE:To enable coloring the surface of Al alloy into dark purple tone by treating an Al alloy containing controlled amt. of Fe and Si with anodization, and then applying DC voltage on the alloy in a bath containing Cu salt and further applying AC voltage. CONSTITUTION:An Al alloy is subjected to anodization treatment to obtain a gray-color film. This Al alloy contains Fe and Si by the amt. satisfying all of the following relation that 0.8 wt.% <=Fe+Si <=3.0 wt.%, Fe<=2.4 wt.%, Si<=2.4 wt.%, and Fe/Si<=0.5 or Fe/Si>=2, and the balance Al and impurities. Then the anodization film is subjected to electrolytic pigmentation in a bath containing Cu salt by first applying DC voltage and then applying AC voltage. By this method, the anodization film formed on the aluminum alloy surface is colored into dark purple tone, and decoloration of the color can be prevented.
