Summary:PURPOSE:To unify the brightness on a desk and prevent the occurrence of the shade of a writing tool and the shade of hands by illuminating an object such as a document on the desk with the indirect light reflected from a black or gray reflecting plate. CONSTITUTION:A vicinity illumination device is constituted of a light source 1 and a reflecting plate 2. A general lamp including a high-intensity lamp can be used for the light source 1, and a point light source such as an incandescent lamp and a halogen lamp or a linear light source such as a straight tube FL40W fluorescent lamp may be used. An umbrella-shaped reflecting plate 3 may be used, and the direct light and the reflected light by the reflecting plate 3 are all radiated toward the reflecting plate 2. The reflecting plate 2 reflects the light of the light source 1 and illuminates the upper face 4 of a desk as the indirect light, and it has the diffusion reflection feature with a low mirror reflection coefficient and the low-brightness low-intensity color of black or gray near black.
