Summary:PURPOSE:To supply necessary heat for reforming with high efficiency and to make a device portable by arranging catalyst layers for reforming methanol and catalyst layers for the combustion of fuel gas alternately and by using a three dimensional reticular metal for the carrier of the combustion catalyst. CONSTITUTION:Catalyst layers 2 for the combustion of fuel gas and catalyst layers 3 for the reforming of methanol are arranged alternately in a reactor main body 1 interposing partition walls 4. The combustion catalyst layers 2 are formed by packing the combustion catalyst supported on a three-dimensional reticular metal such as sponge metal, etc. The combustion catalyst layers 2 are allowed to contact closely to partition walls 4 separating combustion reaction chamber 9 from reforming reaction chambers 10 or to the main body 1. Decomposing zones are held by this mechanism at high temp., and conversion of methanol is improved. Further, the concentration of CO in the produced gas is reduced.
