Summary:PURPOSE:To obtain a satisfactory multicolor video signal excellent in balancing of S/N by obtaining an output at the same level as the output signal level of another read sensor by thinning out the reset pulse of the read sensor lacking sensitivity at a prescribed rate. CONSTITUTION:This reader is provided with plural read sensors 18R, 18G and 18B with mutually different color filters, and a means 30 to drive the respective read sensors 18R, 18G and 18B while setting the reset rate of the read sensor 18R having the color filter whose sensitivity is lowest among these plural read sensors 18R, 18G and 18B, lower than that of the other read sensors 18G and 18B. In such a manner, the reset rate of the read sensor 18R whose sensitivity is lowest among the plural read sensors 18R, 18G and 18B, is set lower than that of the other read sensors and an interpolation processing is executed to the output data of the sensor. Thus, the level can be averaged among the outputs from the read sensors for respective colors, the reader can be miniaturized and the cost can be reduced.
