Summary:PURPOSE:To provide the title dense sintered compact excellent in high- temperature strength, substantially composed of mullite phase and sapphirine phase. CONSTITUTION:The objective sintered compact with its crystal phase consisting substantially of mullite phase and sapphirine phase can be obtained by mixing (A) mullite with the weight ratio of alumina/silica being (69:31)-(76:24) and (B) 1-5 pts.wt. per pt.wt. of the mullite of magnesia followed by sintering at 1300-1480 deg.C.
