Summary:PURPOSE:To obtain excellent fixing properties in corresponding to various kinds of transfer materials and to prevent the generation of the wrinkles on the transfer material. CONSTITUTION:A second supporting roller 5 is moved in a vertical direction, so that the winding angle of a pressure belt 3 to a fixing roller 1 is changed at a range from theta1 to theta2, and the width of a nipping part 6 is varied. For instance, when a paper having a large number of the wrinkles, such as a thin paper and a reclaimed paper is used and a nip width is narrowed, and when many thick papers are used and underfixing occurs, the nip width is set wide, so that excellent fixing can be attained, and the various requests of an user can be satisfied.
