Summary:PURPOSE:To obtain the display device which display a bright display image with a high contrast ratio. CONSTITUTION:A light emitting element array REA is constituted by linearly arraying N light emitting elements which emit light in a predetermined wavelength range longer than the visible light range corresponding to N picture elements and the respective light emitting elements are made to emit the light with light emission intensity based upon information on the picture elements corresponding individually to the respective light emitting elements at the same time for a predetermined period. The light emitted by the respective light emitting elements is deflected at the same time at right angles to the array direction of the emitted light and written in a light-light converting element SLM. The photoconductive layer member PCL of the light-light converting elements if formed by using a photoconductive material which has high sensitivity to the light of the light emitting elements in the light emitting element array. The information written in the light-light converting element is read out by using read light in the visible range having shorter cutoff half-value wavelength than the wavelength of the light emitted by the light emitting elements constituting the light emitting element array.
