Summary:PURPOSE:To facilitate the material handling by decreasing the lateral inclination angle of a hull. CONSTITUTION:Traversing devices 2 to 8 are moved in a transverse direction by driving a transverse drive device 7 while a wind-up and pay-out drive device 8 for a hoist cable 3 is driven so as to raise and lower a spreader 4 so as to transfer cargo 5 such as a container between a quay and a ship. In this case, a counterweight is moved transversely in a direction reverse to the direction of movement of the traversing devices 2 to 8 so as to reduce a lateral inclination moment in order to decrease the lateral inclination angle of the hull of the ship.
