Summary:PURPOSE:To obtain a synchronization detecting device for laser printers without causing always the shifting of the picture writing position in the main scanning direction by providing a correction circuit having a specific function on the reference voltage inputting side of a comparator. CONSTITUTION:Picture element density data DPID are inputted to the setting circuit 18 of a D/A converter constituting a correction circuit in this synchronization detecting device for laser printers and a reference voltage VREF corresponding to the picture element is outputted from the converter 19. Since a detecting waveform corresponding to each picture density is detected by a photodiode (PD) 14 and inputted to the input terminal 17a of a comparator and the variable reference voltage VREF corresponding to each picture element density is inputted to the other input terminal 17b of the comparator 17, a fixed synchronization detecting pulse DETPB is always obtained from different detecting waveforms. Therefore, even when the picture element density varies, the picture writing position does not shift in the main scanning direction and the quality of outputted pictures is maintained at a high level.
