Summary:PURPOSE:To contrive adequateness of traction control at the time of starting by independently estimating a friction coefficient respectively relating to right/ left drive wheels based on a relation between a preset engine speed and the road surface friction coefficient under a specified starting condition of a vehicle. CONSTITUTION:In a control unit 200, an engine speed, represented by a detection output signal Sn at the time of starting a vehicle, is collated with a data map, determining a relation between an engine speed prestored in a built-in memory and a road surface friction coeffient, to individually estimate friction coefficients muR, muL of right/left rear wheels at the time of starting. In the case of estimating the friction coefficient of only one of the right/left rear wheels 20R, 20L at the time of starting, the control unit 200 estimates the friction coefficient of the other rear wheel with a fixed value muX. Accordingly, the road surface friction coeffient respectively of the right/left drive wheels can be adequately estimated, and after setting a target slip value based on this coefficient of the drive wheels, traction control can be adequately performed.
