Summary:PURPOSE:To put image information, read out of an area, in an excellent state by applying mutually different light-light conversion areas with voltages which differ in applied voltage value and frequency value so that specific operation is performed under different operation conditions. CONSTITUTION:Write light WL is made incident on a light-light converting element SLM from the side of its transparent electrode Et1 to form an image on three image formation surfaces arrayed on the same plane of a photoconductive layer member PCL. The element SLM is equipped with divided electrodes Et2r, Et2g, and Etb corresponding to the image formation surfaces and power sources Er, Eg, and Eb as a control circuit are connected between the image formation surfaces and the electrode Et1. The voltage values or frequencies, etc., of the respective power source are set properly corresponding to the modulation characteristics of the element SLM to the wavelength of a modulating material layer member PML and then modulation characteristics of respective light-light conversion areas set on the element SLM can almost be equalized to readout light beams in different wavelength ranges which are made incident on the respective areas.
