Summary:PURPOSE:To stabilize the storage of a battery in a battery holding device for a forklift or the like by opening operating apertures in the bottom wall of a box like battery storage chamber, in positions close to the side walls, and pivotally supporting laminated spacer plates protruding/receding selectively into/from the storage chamber thereunder. CONSTITUTION:A vehicle body 1 is provided with a box like battery storage chamber 4 formed by a front side wall 8, a rear side wall 9, lateral side walls 10, 10 and a bottom wall 11. A battery 3 is inserted from a battey entrance 6 formed at a floor plate 5. The bottom wall 11 is provided with operating apertures 21 along the lateral side walls 10, 10 and the front side wall 8, and segmental spacer plates 24 are provided in the laminated state below the operating apertures 21. The flat face 24a of the spacer plate 24 is leveled with the bottom wall 11 in the specified opening position of the spacer plate 24. A pair of grooves 24c to be engaged with the snap ring 28 of a housing 22 are further formed in the 180 deg. opposed positions on the circumferential face 24b of the spacer plate 24.
