Summary:PURPOSE:To manufacture an Fe-Ni alloy cold rolled sheet excellent in cleanliness and etching pierceability by adding Al to an Fe-Ni alloy having a specified compsn. and bringing the above into reaction with slag having a specified compsn. in a ladle made of a specified refractory. CONSTITUTION:A prescribed amt. of Al is added to a desulfurized and decarburized Fe-Ni molten alloy contg. 30 to 45wt.% Ni. This addition is executed in a ladle made of an MgO-CaO series refractory contg. 20 to 40% CaO, and this alloy is successively brought into reaction with CaO-Al2O3-MgO series slag constituted of >=57% CaO+AlO3, >=0.45% CaO/(CaO+Al2O3), <=25% MgO, <=15% SiO2 and <=3% oxide of metal having oxygen affinity weaker than that of Si and is deoxidized. This alloy is subjected to casting, blooming, hot rolling and cold rolling into a cold rolled sheet with <=6mum grain size contg. <=0.002% non-metallic inclusions expressed in terms of oxygen. In this way, an Fe-Ni series cold rolled sheet suitable as a high brightness TV shadow mask material can be obtd.
