Summary:PURPOSE:To obtain an oxidation resistant carbon fiber reinforced carbon material having oxidation resistance at a high temp. without damaging the characteristics of a carbon fiber reinforced carbon material having high strength and high elasticity. CONSTITUTION:This carbon material is obtained by dispersing fine ceramic particles into carbon, forming a matrix thereof and compounding long carbon fibers as a reinforcing material. As for its manufacturing method, carbon powder contg. pitch powder is mixed with ceramic powder, and this mixed powder is mixed with a small amt. of resin and alcohol into a slurry, which is impregnated into a long carbon fiber group, is subjected to precompacting and is sintered.
