Summary:PURPOSE:To surely hold a clutch in a fine engaging condition so as to improve control responsiveness by setting an initial engaging pressure, given to a hydraulic clutch of a differentially adjusting mechanism, in accordance with a result of detecting whether an overshoot is provided or not of a pressure in an oil chamber of the hydraulic clutch. CONSTITUTION:A planet gear type differential gear 12, to which an output of an output shaft 8 of an automatic transmission 6 is transmitted, has a hydraulic multidisk clutch 28 for changing distribution of output torque of an engine between front/rear wheels by restricting differential action between front/rear wheel side output parts. In a front/rear wheel torque distribution control device thus obtained, an initial engaging pressure detecting oil pressure, increasing to a predetermined pressure from an initial engaging pressure condition in the preceding time, is given to the multidisk clutch 28, to detect, in reaction to this, whether an overshoot is provided or not of a pressure in an oil chamber of the multidisk clutch 28. When the overshoot is provided, the initial engaging pressure in the preceding time is increased by a predetermined amount to serve as this time initial engaging pressure, and when the overshoot is not provided, the preceding time initial engaging pressure is given as this time initial engaging pressure to the multidisk clutch 28.
