PURPOSE:To harden a timber and form the same into a straight and free sectional shape by softening the timber at the high temperature and under high pressure water vapor atmosphere, and compression forming and fixing. CONSTITUTION:A processing vessel 1 is opened and a timber W to be processed is fed into said processing vessel 1 and then placed and supported on a support bed 2. The processing vessel 1 is closed, and then gas mixed with a chemical such as creosote is injected into the processing vessel 1 through a piping 6, and water vapor is fed therein through the piping 6 to soften the timber W, and then a piston rod 3a of a pressure cylinder 3 is stretched and the timber W is pushed into a roller die 4 by a pusher 12 located at the end, and the timber W is drawn successively by respective rollers of a roller die body 13 and compressed to approximately 1/2-1/3 by section area ratio, and then pushed into a fixing case 5. Then the timber W is left in the fixing case 5 for the given time and fixed.
