PURPOSE:To enhance properties of a storage battery such as heat resistance and low-temperature starting property etc. by containing glass fiber of average fiber diameter less than 1mum and inorganic powder by the total of 70 to 82wt.% and organic components by 18 to 30wt.% in a separator. CONSTITUTION:This separator contains glass fiber of average fiber diameter less than 1mum and inorganic powder by the total of 70 to 82wt.% and organic components by 18 to 30wt.% and the amount of the glass fiber is 30 to 55wt.% and the amount of the inorganic powder is 15 to 52wt.%. When the total of the mixing rate of the glass fiber of average fiber diameter less than 1mum and the inorganic powder is less than 70wt.% and the amount of the organic components exceed 30wt.%, sufficient heat resistance cannot be obtained and electrical resistance is heightened unfavorably. When the amount of the inorganic components exceed 82wt.% and that of the organic components less than 18wt.% the strength of the separator becomes insufficient.
