Summary:PURPOSE:To improve the discharge characteristic of a gas electric discharge display panel and enhance the emission efficiency of the display panel by forming a cathode basically out of an oxide conductor containing a compound of perovskite structure. CONSTITUTION:The base electrode 2 of a cathode 3 is selected among Ni, A, Pd, Al, and Cu and a specific oxide conductor is mixed in glass powder and the cathode 3 sintered is layed thereon. (LaM1)M2O3 having perovskite crystalline structure (M1 is Ba, Se; M2 is either of Co, Ni, Fe, and Mn) or LaM2O3 is used as the oxide conductor. Alternately, (LaM1)2M2O4 having K2NiF4 crystalline structure (M1, M2 is the same as mentioned above) or La2M2O4 (M2 is the same as mentioned above) is used. The cathode thus formed has good conductivity even when sintered in air and its discharge starting volt age and minimum discharge maintenance are low. The amount of ions attached to front glass through discharge is small. The emission efficiency of the display panel is therefore good.
