Summary:PURPOSE:To obtain an antitumor agent comprising a liquid phase composition in a culture solution prepared by liquid culture of Hericium erinaceus as an active ingredient. CONSTITUTION:An antitumor agent comprising a filtrate obtained by subjecting Hericium erinaceus to liquid culture in a generally useful medium for mushroom to give a culture mixture and removing mycelia, or a concentrated solution thereof or a dried substance thereof as an active ingredient. The filtrate or the concentrated solution thereof is incorporated with 0.5-5 times as much as methanol, ethanol or isopropyl alcohol by weight and precipitated polymer solution fraction is dried to give a component having much stronger antitumor effects. In culture of Hericium erinaceus, yeast essence and glucose are used and the culture is preferably carried out under 0.1-1vvm (air feed amount per medium volume per minute) air circulation.
