Summary:PURPOSE:To omit an unnecessary index display by discriminating a command signal by an independent key operating function and a bar code read operating function and providing a function for eliminating an index display on a monitor screen at the time of a bar code read operation. CONSTITUTION:The index display is controlled by deciding whether a command signal from a remote controller is by an independent key operation mode or by a bar code read operation mode. That is, whether the signal from the remote controller 1 is correspondent to a bar code or not is decided, and superimposing of an index display signal over a reproduction signal of a video disk is stopped in response to this deciding result. By this method, for instance, when the remote controller 1 is used under the bar code read mode, the index display on the monitor screen is eliminated, so that the unnecessary index display can be omitted.
