Summary:PURPOSE:To maintain the transmission characteristics and life of coated optical fibers and to improve working efficiency by detecting the orbits of the grooves of a spacer without contact and preventing external damages. CONSTITUTION:While the spacer 1 is linearly let off from a lef-off drum, the respective coated optical fibers 4 of plural bobbins 8 are left off as shown in Fig. and are passed once through a stationary eyeboard 9, by which the fibers are respectively distributed in position; thereafter, the fibers are again passed through an alternately inverting eyeboard 13. The tracer marks read by an optical sensor 14a of a groove detecting means 14 positioned without contact on the spacer 1 on the upstream side of this alternately inverting eyeboard 13 are recognized by an image processor 14b and the detection signal thereof is inputted to a signal processor 15a of a driving control means 15. A servo motor 15b is controlled to drive a gear 13a in accordance with this signal, by which the alternately inverting eyeboard 13 is alternately invertedly driven. The coated optical fibers 4 are housed into the grooves 3 of the spacer 1 by the twisting port part 11a of an aggregating die 11 in this way.
