Summary:PURPOSE:To form a large sized ceramic plate having resistance to freezing damage by adding adjusting component of thermal expansion coefficient and in addition an appropriate quantity of wollastonite, and insuring thermal expansion coefficient near by silica transformation temperature, bending strength, and the like. CONSTITUTION:As main components, 'ohmori' pottery stone 10-40weight%, wollastonite 5-25weight%, 'motoyamakibushi' clay 20-50weight%, cordierite 3-10weight%, and if necessary, talc under 20weight% in addition, they are combined, mixed, water is added, and kneaded into a body. The body is extruded, rolled, formed, burnt, and cooled into a product. By addition of adjusting component of thermal expansion coefficient, the bending strength is reduced, but by addition of appropriate quantity of wollastonite, the strength can be held. A low water absorbing large sized ceramic plate having following characteristics is formed: thermal expansion coefficient near by silica transformation temperature 80X10<-7>-110X10<-7>/ deg.C, bending strength >250kgf/cm , thickness 3-10mm, short side of plate >600mm, water absorption <3%. Hereby, resistance to freezing damage and workability can be remarkably improved.
