Summary:PURPOSE:To prevent the occurrence of chipping, and to enhance finishing accuracy, in a ball end mill for carrying out three-dimensional machining to a metal mold or the like, by providing a chamfer in the intersecting part of the circular- arc shaped cutting edge of the shank end and the plane shaped cutting edge in the vicinity of the turning center. CONSTITUTION:In the ball end mill, a circular-arc shaped cutting edge 2 and a plane shaped cutting edge 3 are formed at the end of the shank. And a straight-line shaped chamfer 5 of a length l is formed in the intersecting part 4 of the circular-arc shaped cutting edge 2 and the plane shaped cutting edge 3. By the chamfer 5 provided, like this, in the intersecting part 4, stress concentration is not caused, and the chipping (minute break of cutting edge) of the cutting edges 2, 3 can be prevented.
