Summary:PURPOSE:To obtain a hair-treatment agent having excellent hairremoving effect and permanent wave effect without giving disagreeable feeling caused by ill odor by using a specific amount of calcium thioglycolate as a component. CONSTITUTION:The objective agent contains calcium thioglycolate of formula I in an amount of 1-15%. The compound of formula I is a colorless solid material crystallizable compared with the compound of formula II and soluble in water. The compound of formula I can be produced by treating the compound of formula II with an aqueous solution containing an alkali such as calcium hydroxide. The compound of formula I dissolves keratin in the presence of an alkali and is useful as a component of a hair-removing agent or a permanent wave lotion.
