Summary:PURPOSE:To discriminate a name of a city of a reception point automatically by allowing a receiver itself to apply in-band search even in the case of reception during driving by a car receiver. CONSTITUTION:A reception section 2 searches all reception bands through the reception of a command from a control section 4 and an electric field strength level discrimination section 3 classifies the electric field strength into 5 step levels and the result is sent to the control section 4. The control section 4 separates an electric field strength level with respect to each frequency into a frequency group F1 of a preset level or over and a frequency group F2 of other level. Then a district code including a prescribed value of the frequency group F1 among district codes stored in a memory section 5 is selected and a surrounding district of the selected district code is retrieved from a memory section 6 and when the surrounding district includes a prescribed frequency group F2, the district of the selected district code is used as a reception district. Thus, when the receiver is applied to a car radio receiver or the like, the district name of the reception point is displayed on a display device 8.
