Summary: | PURPOSE:To detect malfunction of a small burner automatically and with certainty by a method wherein, as a step preceding usual combustion, short-time test combustion is tried with a small burner and, if the test start of combustion repeated in a number of cycles fails of ignition, the combustion device is condemned as malfunctioning. CONSTITUTION:A water-heater operation switch 81 on a remote control 80 is turned on; a cock then open and, when a water-flow sensor 63 has detected a flow of water above the activating minimum, a control part 70 acts to check a first burner 20 on malfunction; after the check, a timer is started and the operation is started in a usual combustion mode. The check on malfunction respecting the first burner 20 is executed by the control part 70, which, for the check, commands a first igniter 22 to be turned on, a fuel supply pump 40 to be turned on, and a first fuel supply valve 24 to be opened with a slight time lag between on command and the succeeding one; a first flame detector 23 sees whether a flame is produced or not; if no flame is detected for a specified period of time, the check is repeated two more times; if no flame is detected through the repeated check, the malfunction is indicated by a malfunction- indicating lamp 82 and a safety action to stop the operation is commanded. |
