PURPOSE:To prevent the generation of howling and obtain a system never affected by sound except the noise of a machine by a method wherein the noise of the machine, which is discharged out of a heat dissipating opening opened on the wall surface of a machine chamber, is cancelled by control sound. CONSTITUTION:A vibration pickup 30 detects vibrations corresponding to noises generated from machines such as compressors 20, 21, 22 and the like. A control circuit 40 processes the output signal of the vibration pickup and drives a sound generator 50 such as a speaker and the like. According to this operation, the sound generator outputs control sounds in accordance with the noises of the machines such as the compressor and the like whereby the noise of the machine, discharged out of the opening 17 of a machine room 10, is cancelled by the control sounds. The noise S of the compressor is measured by the vibration pickup 30 indirectly and, therefore, there is no possibility of howling due to the control sound A even when the output of the sound attenuating speaker 50 is increased and the title refrigerator will never be affected by sound such as the sound of a fan, external sound and the like except the noise S of the compressor.
