CONSTITUTION:The descender letter is eliminated, and the base line of the character string is detected, and it is discriminated whether the letter is the ascender letter or the descender letter setting the base line as reference. Since the base line is detected from the letter not being the descender letter in such way, the base line can be accurately detected even when deviation exists in the kinds of the letter such as including a large number of descender letters in the row of a document. Thereby, character recognition with high accuracy can be performed.
