Summary:PURPOSE:To obtain a stable image with a low cost constitution by making picture element density variable by an image processing means without varying rotational speed of a polygon mirror and linear velocity of a photosensitive body. CONSTITUTION:A control means 100 controlling the rotational speed of a polygon motor 6b to be fixed and the image processing means 100 carrying out image processing to vary the picture element density in a main scanning direction and the picture element density in a sub scanning direction to be the same are provided. Then, the rotational speed of the polygon motor 6b is controlled to be fixed, and the picture element density in the main scanning direction and the picture element density in the sub scanning direction are varied to be the sauce by image processing. Therefore, the picture element density can be varied without varying the rotational speed of the polygon mirror 6a and the linear velocity of the photosensitive body 5, etc. Thus, the picture element density can be varied stably at a low cost without imparting any adverse effect on the device main body.
