Summary:PURPOSE:To improve the copying efficiency by allowing a control means to continue copying of a preceding original without stopping it when digital picture information of the preceding original is read from a storage means, the reading of a succeeding original is started during copying by the copying means and a fault of the read of the succeeding original is detected. CONSTITUTION:Suppose that while a 2nd original is read and written in a storage device 300, a read defect takes place and a fault exists in the transmission reception of an original start signal or the like, then a read control circuit 106 sends a fault code 50H representing the occurrence of a fault in a reader 100 to a copying machine 200. A system controller 302 of the copying machine 200 recognizes the operation of a copying circuit 500 at present and receives a read fault code 50H from the reader 100, decides the fault as to whether it gives effect on the copying and continues the copying when the fault does not effect the copying and sends the read fault code 50H to an operation device 400 after the end of copying.
