Summary:PURPOSE:To prevent malfunction caused by reproducing a disk which can not be reproduced by providing a discrimination circuit which reads information in a lead-in area and discriminates whether a reproduced disk is a CD-I disk or not. CONSTITUTION:The discrimination circuit 9 reads the information in the lead-in area and discriminates whether the reproduced disk is the CD-I disk or not. When the reproduced disk 1 is not the CD-I disk, as the discriminated result, and inital action is finished by moving an optical head 3 to the position of the start time of the first musical piece in the disk 1 which is recorded in the lead-in area of the disk 1. When the reproduced disk 1 is the CD-I disk, the initial action is finished by moving the optical head 3 to the position of the absolute time 0 of the data area of the disk 1, and a host is informed that the CD-I disk is being reproduced through a signal bus 7. Thus, the malfunction is prevented from being caused by inadvertently reproducing the disk which can not be reproduced.
