Summary:PURPOSE:To prevent a tunnel roof from falling in by moving only a protector forward together with a cutter head support while pressing a half-segment against the protector and retaining it, and mounting the half-segment to above tunnel wall. CONSTITUTION:A half-segment 36 is transferred to a position below a protector 9 by a segment conveying device 40 and is supported by the segment supporting mechanism 28 of an electric device 29 and is raised to immediately below the protector 9 by rotary movement of a turning body 27. After a cutter head 2 is moved forward and drilling is finished, a frame 16 is moved forward together with a gripper device 11 and is located below the segment 36. The segment 36 is pressed and held to the inner face of the protector 9 and a hole is drilled through tunnel wall 43 by a drill lot 21 via a through hole 36c and a slit channel 9a and the segment 36 is fixed there. Thus the tunnel roof is prevented from falling in.
