Summary:PURPOSE:To obtain the subject catalyst giving a highly stereoregular polymer in high yield by treating solid catalyst component containing a Mg compound, a Ti compound and a halogen-containing compound as essential ingredients with a specific ketoester compound at or after formation of the said solid component. CONSTITUTION:A solid catalyst component containing a magnesium compound, a titanium compound and a halogen-containing compound as essential ingredients is treated in the presence of a ketoester compound (e.g. 2-benzoyl methylbenzoate) expressed by the formula (R , R and (z) are aliphatic hydrocarbon, alicyclic hydrocarbon, aromatic hydrocarbon or polycyclic hydrocarbon) at or after formation of the said catalyst to afford the objectsue olefin polymerizing catalyst component. Besides, the polymerizing catalyst component is combined with an organic aluminum compound (e.g. trimethylaluminum) to afford an olefin-polymerizing catalyst.
