Summary:PURPOSE:To prevent deterioration in printing quality, defective printing, etc., caused by aged deterioration of an ink-jet cartridge from occurring by a method wherein a means that counts the time elapsed from the opening of a container is provided to the ink-jet cartridge. CONSTITUTION:A container 101 with an ink-jet cartridge 10 confined therein is opened when installing the ink-jet cartridge to a carriage of an ink-jet device. A timer 103 as a time-counting means is equipped with a battery, an IC for timers and a switching means that automatically connects the battery to the IC at the time when the container 101 is opened. An optical sensor is used for operation of the switch. The container 101 is made of opaque material. When the container 101 is opened, the optical sensor senses the lightness and makes the timer 103 start the operation. An indicator that indicates the lapse of time counted with the timer 103 is provided on the surface of the ink-jet cartridge 10, and serviceability of the cartridge can be judged based on the elapsed time displayed.
