Summary:PURPOSE:To prevent the surfaces of fuel rods from flawing when they are inserted and to facilitate the insertion by providing a member which divide the four fuel rods inserted into a cylinder body into two and presses and supports them. CONSTITUTION:The fuel rods 4 are inserted while support members 9 are not inserted into the independent cells 5 of the fuel spacer 3. Then the members 9 are inserted into openings 8c of a side band 8 after the fuel rods 4 are located at specific axial positions, and then made to penetrate the cells 5 and reach the openings 8c on the opposite side of the band 8, and when folded parts ie pass through the openings 8c, the members 9 are rotated by 90 deg.. The space between projections 8a and 8b of the opening 8c is large enough to rotate a stay 9d, so the member 9 can be rotated at this position. After the rotation, the folded part 9e and band 8 are welded and fixed. At this time, a pressure part 9c is positioned in the center in the cell 5 and presses the fuel rod 4 properly to hold the gap between adjacent fuel rods 4 proper. Consequently, when the fuel rods 4 are inserted, none of their surfaces flaws and the rods can easily be inserted.
