Summary:NEW MATERIAL:A compound shown by formula I (R1 is hydroxymethyl; R2 is H, acyl or R1 and R2 are bonded to form -CH2-O-CH2 bond), a steric isomer or a salt thereof. EXAMPLE:1-Hydroxymethyl-6-methoxy-3,7-dimethyl-5,8-dioxo-1,2,3,4,5,8- hexahydroisoquinoline. USE:An antitumor agent. PREPARATION:According to reaction formula, a compound shown by formula II-1 is dissolved in an inert solvent such as THF and then treated with 1-1.1 equivalent aluminum lithium hydride while stirring to give a compound shown by formula II-2. Then this compound is treated by catalytic hydrogenation method in an inert solvent to give a compound shown by formula II-5. Then this compound is oxidized with cerium [VIII] diammonium nitrate to give a compound shown by formula I-1.
