Summary:PURPOSE:To form a catalyst for purifying NOX in exhaust gas by supporting one or more kind of a catalytic component selected from a group consisting of Cu, Pt, Rh, Ir and Ru on a carrier consisting of titanium oxide and zirconium oxide. CONSTITUTION:An aqueous solution containing a compound of a metal selected from a group consisting of Cu, Pt, Pd, Rh, Ir and Ru being a catalytic component is infiltrated in a carrier consisting of titanium oxide and zirconium oxide or a carrier having a coating layer consisting of titanium oxide and zirconium oxide to obtain an exhaust gas purifying catalyst having the catalytic component supported thereon. Concretely, an anatase type TiO2 powder is added to a zirconium oxynitrate solution to prepare a slurry and immersing a cordierite honeycomb carrier in the slurry to coat the carrier and subsequently immersing the carrier in a solution prepared by adding copper acetate in aqueous ammonia to obtain a copper supported catalyst.
