Summary:PURPOSE:To detect a broken optical fiber even when an optical coding circuit is faulty by moving an operating point of a logical value minimizing the luminous quantity of a light emission circuit to another operating point having a large luminous quantity. CONSTITUTION:A signal level appearing across a resistor 13 is amplified by an amplifier circuit 14 and the amplified signal is extracted through a capacitor 15 bypassing only logic signal and a resistor 16 and the received logic signal is extracted by an amplifier circuit 17. On the other hand, an output of the amplifier circuit 14 is rectified by a diode 20 via a buffer circuit 19 and the pulsating component of the logic signal is eliminated by a parallel circuit comprising a resistor 21 and a capacitor 22. The output signal is a DC signal and the level is a sum of the average power level of the logic signal and the DC level at a reference operating point A'. Thus, if an optional fiber is broken, both the output of the logic signal and the level detection output cannot be received. Thus, a broken optical fiber is detected.
