Summary: | PURPOSE:To improve the surface quality of a metal strip by providing an instrument for measuring surface roughness of the rapidly cooled metal strip just after casting and surface roughness on a cooling roll used for casting the strip in on-line, respectively. CONSTITUTION:As the surface roughness on the rapidly cooled metal strip and the cooling roll are measured in on-line at the same time, the measured result can be used always to correct producing conditions and this is served to improvement of the surface quality on the rapidly cooled metal strip. Molten metal injected from the pouring nozzle 1 is extremely rapid-cooled at the surface on the cooling roll 2 rotating at high velocity and solidified, and after forming the amorphous alloy strip 3, this is detached from the cooling roll with a gas knife 4 and flown to a coiler side with high velocity gas stream by aid of a fan 12. Remachining of the roll is executed before casting operation for the strip by using cemented carbide cutting tool. A stainless steel wire-made brushing roll 5 and a buff roll 6 with gause on a core metal wound, are supplied to conditioning the roll surface. By this method, the surface quality of the rapidly cooled metal strip can be improved. |
