Summary:PURPOSE:To improve the recovery of the subject substance by culturing a specific microorganism. CONSTITUTION:A microorganism (e.g. E.coli) containing a DNA coding a mutant human beta-neurocyte growth factor and transformed with a vector self- proliferative in a microorganism is cultured in a nutrient medium such as LB medium or M9-CA medium and the cells are separated. The mutant human beta-neurocyte growth factor has a structure corresponding to natural-type human beta-neurocyte growth factor provided that 4 cysteine residues in 6 cysteine residues excluding at least the 15- and 80-cysteine residues counted from the N-terminal are substituted with other amino acid residues. The culture liquid is purified by protein purification procedures such as salting out with ammonium sulfate, ultrafiltration and liquid chromatography to obtain the mutant human beta- neurocyte growth factor having the amino acid sequence of formula.
