Summary:PURPOSE:To easily and efficiently produce a thin shaped metal base composite material by setting a reinforcing material preformed body between metal members, putting this in a metallic mold, heating the metal members, press pouring base metal under molten state and impregnating the base metal in the preformed body. CONSTITUTION:By using the reinforcing material composed of SiC particles and SiO2-Al2O3 short fibers, the thin-state preformed body 11 is formed and held with plate-state mild steels 10 and preset in cavity 13 in the metallic mold 12. Successively, by heating the mold steel 10, temp. of the preformed body 11 is made to about 800 deg.C and the metal Al under molten state is pressed into the metallic mold 12 from a flowing-through member 16 connected with the metallic mold 12 at about 800 deg.C molten temp. at about 30mm/sec pressing-in velocity and held to about 10kg/mm for about 1min, to impregnated and solidify Al into the preformed body 11. After cooling, the preformed body 11 and mild steel 10 are taken out and the mild steels 10 are removed, then the thin shaped metal base composite material is obtd.
