Summary:PURPOSE:To obtain a reinforcing member for an optical fiber coupler which is difficult to be influenced by the change of environment and excellent in strength by constituting the reinforcing member of a composite member which is obtained by composting at least two or more kinds of members including a tough member and whose linear expansion coefficient is nearly same as that of an optical fiber. CONSTITUTION:The reinforcing member is constituted of the composite member 1 which is obtained by compositing at least two or more kinds of members including the tough member and whose linear expansion coefficient is nearly same as that of the optical fiber F. In such a case, it is desirable that the composite member 1 is constituted of at least high molecular liquid crystal compound 4 and metal 3, and it is also desirable that the composite member is constituted of the high molecular liquid crystal compound and plastic. Thus, mechanical strength is improved and the influence accompanied with thermal expansion or thermal contraction caused by temperature change is eliminated and the reinforcing member for optical fiber coupler which is tough and stable against the change of the environment is obtained.
