PURPOSE:To take in ruggedness information of an object surface in such form even in the case of irregular distribution of the ruggedness of the object surface that this information can be used in a system by obtaining ruggedness information of the object surface based on brightness information extracted from input picture data. CONSTITUTION:A texture processing part of the color picture processing system consists of an input device 1, a color converting circuit 2, an emphasis filter 3, a picture data control system 5, a color and pattern generating device 6, a data selecting circuit 9, buffer circuits 10 and 11, a weighting circuit 11, a color inverse converting circuit 13, and a form converting circuit 14. Only brightness information is extracted from an inputted color picture by coordinate transformation and is emphasized and compensated, and results are used as ruggedness information of the object surface. Thus, ruggedness information is taken in such form that it can be used in the system though the distribution of ruggedness of the object surface is irregular.
