Summary:PURPOSE:To effectly use zero-order diffracted light by two-dimmensionally scanning a screen by using primary diffracted light which is projected by a light modulating means and projecting the zero-order diffracted light on the screen while two-dimensionally polarizing the light. CONSTITUTION:At an A/O modulator 2, incident light is separated into the zero-order diffracted light and the 1st-order diffracted light by Bragg diffraction, and at a prism 3, the 1st-order diffracted light is introduced to a raster scanning system 4 and the zero-order diffracted light is introduced to a vector scanning system 5 as a diffracting means. The 1st-order diffracted light projected on the screen 11 by the raster scanning system 4 is scanned by the operation of a rotating polygon mirror 7 and a galvanomirror 10 on the screen plane in the horizontal and vertical scanning directions. Thus, the zero-order diffracted light is effectly used.
